10th Annual CCA Invitational Raises over $350,000

2018 CCA Invitational

This year’s CCA Invitational, formerly known as the Children’s Pro-Am, marks the 10th year of lively competition for amateurs and pros alike. This two-day event led by co-chairs Grant Hammersley and Paul Gulick with presenting sponsor Opus Agency, inspires PGA professionals from across Oregon and Southwest Washington to reach for one common goal – provide joy to seriously ill children and their families through the Children’s Cancer Association’s (CCA) free-of-charge programs.

A decade of golfing for seriously ill children and teens has not diminished the passion of this dedicated group. Together, we raised over $350,000, a record-breaking total! Since the event’s inception in 2008, its raised more than $1.3 million for CCA.

A Moving Speech by Will Carey

The first night of the event, attendees enjoyed an evening of music in the Oregon Golf Club Rose Garden, sponsored by Davidson Benefits Planning LLC. Then after dinner, they listened to a moving speech by guest speaker Will Carey, whose son died at the young age of seven from an inoperable brain tumor. Our deepest thanks to Will for sharing his story. Listen to the speech below:

We also welcomed Celebrity Guest Speakers, Paul Goydos, Brian Henninger, and moderator Jordan Kent to the stage, sponsored by Prestige Care Inc, and had an interesting Q&A session on the future of golf.

Tournament Day

The tournament, sponsored by OnPoint Community Credit Union, kicked off the following day with everyone perfecting their putt. Winner of the putting contest, sponsored by Cherry Creek Mortgage Company, was Michael Horwitz who graciously donated the winnings to CCA.

27 teams of amateurs were accompanied by one pro and completed a full 18 holes, a whopping six hours of playing in sweltering heat, but it was all smiles and laughter for these joy enthusiasts!

On hole 12, a special moment took place for one of the players. 2018 CCA Hero, Weston’s story was stationed out at this hole and it just so happened that his uncle, Dan Dickinson, was playing that very day. The team took a photo with Weston’s poster and then played the hole in his honor.

And the Winner Is…

Congratulations to the tournament’s winning pro, Scott Leritz of Royal Oaks Country Club. The winning team was Tim Freeman and his players Rennie Muzii, William Carr and Brad Skreen!

We extend our gratitude to each and every person who spent two days with us! The outpouring of support exceeded our expectations and we are impressed beyond words. Here’s to another great year!
