Celebrating Joy in February
Every February, JoyRx, the mission delivery of Children’s Cancer Association, partners with local Joy Maker businesses to celebrate Joy all month long. This year, we partnered with KATU News, iHeart Radio, other local businesses, and members of the community to raise critical funds for our JoyRx Music, Mentorship, and Nature programs.
We’re so grateful for the generosity of our community during this 28-day celebration. The month has opportunities to raise funds through our car giveaway, buying paper hearts at Joy Maker businesses, peer-to-peer fundraising, and participating in Day of Joy on February 28.
Check out the inspiring stories of the children and teens served by JoyRx, and see what a difference the gift of Joy makes:
Watching 13-year-old Sabina McMahon perform in Jackson Middle School’s production of The Ransom of Elverna Dower, it’s hard to tell that just nine months ago, Sabina’s stage was a hospital bed.
Vanessa Fasone and Tyson Lancaster love talking about their 7-year-old son, Oliver Fasone-Lancaster. They say he’s smart, funny, curious, compassionate and sensitive. But right after Oliver started kindergarten, his parents say his personality changed.
Within minutes of meeting 7-year-old Wesley Strobel, he’ll tell you all about his time at the Caring Cabin.
TaShawntay Wade has always taught her children to look on the bright side. “Smile as much as you can, make the day as best you can. And when you can’t, go back to bed,” TaShawntay says laughing. But smiling was tough when her funny and busy daughter, Khyraya, started losing her energy.
Special thanks to KATU for sharing this month’s stories of Joy and hosting our February celebration of Joy all month long, to presenting sponsors Elmer’s and Pacific Office Automation, to the dozens of Joy Maker businesses, and to each and every one of you who opened your hearts to create Joy for sick kids.
