Our Origin Story

Remembering Alex

May 7 marks a momentous day in JoyRx history. This was the day that, in 1995, Alexandra Ellis, at the age of just five and a half years old, died of cancer.

It was undeniably a horrible day for those that loved her, as well as a tremendous loss for all of us that never got the opportunity to know her directly. She sounds pretty incredible — full of joy, music, and love for her family. Someone so special that, at such a young age, she inspired her family to start an organization to help other families facing a similar experience.

She inspired the creation of the Alexandra Ellis Memorial Children’s Cancer Association — which we now affectionately call JoyRx — where we all have the privilege and honor of carrying on her legacy and joyful spirit.
