JoyRx Hosts Fourth Annual Golf for Joy Challenge

On Monday, April 24, 32 golfers arrived with the rising sun to golf until sundown. Their ambitious challenge? Play as many holes of golf as they can in support of JoyRx, the mission delivery of Children’s Cancer Association.

With a shotgun start at 8:00 am, the participants were greeted by a beautiful sunrise. Many of the golfers wore purple in support of JoyRx, including polos, hats, and jackets.

This is Golf for Joy Challenge’s fourth year, bringing golfers together from around the Pacific Northwest and beyond. This year, we had returning golfers and several new participants taking to the fairway.

This year, players had a chance to visit JoyRx Headquarters in Portland for a Know Before You Go Happy Hour on Thursday, April 20. This networking event allowed players to get to know each other, pick up their supplies, and learn more about the JoyRx program.

On Monday, our generous golfers played hundreds of holes at the Witch Hollow course at the prestigious Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, raising over $80,000 (and counting!) in critical funding to bring the healing power of JoyRx Music, Mentorship, and Nature to families caring for children with life-threatening illness.

Congratulations to Kevin Mathis and Brandon Taylor who played the most holes, arriving before dawn and finishing out the Challenge golfing 152 holes.

The Duo Angel Lee Team, Eunice Lee and Jennie Lee, golfed 72 holes and walked over 54,000 steps.

All and all, it was an impressive day with plenty of golf swings!

The true heroes, of course, are the thousands of children whose treatment experiences will be made a little brighter and more Joyful thanks to this generosity.

The JoyRx team wants to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our golfers and their friends and family for their generous support. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors: Jojo, Tito’s Vodka, Black Rock Coffee, Pepsi, Breakside Brewing, Frito Lay, and Pacific Coast Fruit Company. And, of course, thank you to Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club for helping to make our fourth annual Golf for Joy Challenge a day far above par!

Donations for Golf for Joy Challenge will be accepted until May 8, so if you’d like to support a Challenge golfer or make a gift that will bring Joy to a child, you can donate today.
