1. What is Wonderball?

Wonderball is the biggest fundraising event of the year for JoyRx, the mission delivery of Children’s Cancer Association. Every year, we come together to celebrate JoyRx and its goal to bring Joy to children across the nation. During this enchanting, themed evening, you’ll enjoy a best-in-class experience with cocktails during a happy hour, a silent auction, entertainment, dinner, and an inspiring JoyRx program that highlights our impact and what you help make possible.

2. When and where is Wonderball?

Our annual Wonderball gala will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the Portland Ballroom at the Oregon Convention Center at 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland, OR 97232. The event begins at 5:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm.

3. What is the cost to attend?

There is no cost to attend Wonderball; instead, we invite our closest friends and supporters to join us for a night of surprise and delight at hosted tables. If you join us for Wonderball, it’s with the expectation that you’ll help raise critical funds for JoyRx. Tables are expected to raise at least $5,000 over the course of the evening to help us reach our $1M goal!

4. What is a table host?

Table hosts bring their friends, families, and special guests to enjoy the experience and contribute to fundraising activations during the event. We ask that each table of 10 work to collectively raise at least $5,000 through a blend of support during our live auction, paddle raise, and other opportunities to give throughout the evening.

Table hosts coordinate with JoyRx Event Coordinator Margaret Martin to ensure we have all guest information prior to the event. Table hosts also help share JoyRx’s mission and encourage giving throughout the course of the program.

5. How many guests can I host?

We encourage you to dream big when building your guests lists!  We offer a variety of host options that support 10-20 guests per table, with the ability to host multiple tables.

6. How do I confirm my guest list?

Table hosts will coordinate with JoyRx Event Coordinator Margaret Martin at MMartin@JoyRx.org. If you have confirmed you will be hosting a table, Margaret will reach out to you via email to gather your guest information. All guest information needs to be submitted no later than September 15.

7. What if I have special dietary needs?

We are happy to accommodate your dietary needs. Please be sure to contact JoyRx Event Coordinator Margaret Martin at MMartin@JoyRx.org by September 15 with your requirements.

8. Can I make a gift to JoyRx during the event?

Yes! There will be multiple opportunities throughout the event to make a direct gift to JoyRx.

9. Can I make gifts in monthly installments to JoyRx?

Yes! Simply tell our volunteers at the registration/check-out table that you would like to fulfill your gift by making monthly payments.

10. I work for a company that matches gifts. Can I do this for a JoyRx donation?

Yes! Please let our volunteers at the registration table know how we can help you complete your matching gift request. Our team will be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

About JoyRx

12. Who is JoyRx?

At JoyRx, the mission delivery of Children’s Cancer Association, we know it takes more than medicine to treat cancer and serious illness. When a child is facing life’s most challenging moments, they also need emotional healing.

For over 27 years, we’ve been doing just that — delivering programs to help kids find their Joy — one song, one friendship, one breath of ocean air at a time. Because when a child experiences Joy, their emotional well-being is positively impacted.

Simply put: Joy makes sick kids feel better.

13. I have more questions, who can I talk to?

Please email JoyRx if you have more questions.

What to Wear

14. What do I wear?

We craft our own stories, and your attire is no different

Will you don the finery of a whimsical academic, luxuriating in the dust motes of an old library? Refinery and elegance drips from the cut of tweed, the tapered gloves, the swish of your cloak. We invite you to put pen to your own page, reimagining yourself into the mysterious mentor, the bright-eyed hero, or the book-loving heroine waiting for her chance to shine.

Or, will you blossom into your garden best and adopt the storybook romance of high tea, swirling into the ballroom with the glamor and color of a field of flowers in full bloom? We invite you to explore floral patterns and colors, the ethereal sweep of gauze and feathers, or to embrace the joy we find in a story — fireflies alighting in your hair, dragonflies drifting at your heels, or peacock feathers following your every step.

Explore the mood boards below and let your creativity flurry across the page.
