JoyRx Music Launches In-Person Delivery For Children in Austin, Texas

It was a Joyful day on Monday, October 3 as JoyRx Music Specialist Christy Medley arrived at Dell Children’s Comprehensive Care in Austin, Texas, to launch live, in-person music services.

This is the first time JoyRx Music is live in-person within Texas hospital and clinic walls since the pandemic, and excitement was in the air. The launch was well received, both by families and healthcare staff. JoyRx staff brought donuts, coffee, and plenty of swag to jumpstart the day and show our appreciation for the valued partnership.

“We are beyond excited to finally be able to bring Joy to children through kid-prescribed music medicine IN-PERSON in Austin!” said Allison Moore, Director of Programs, South.

Allison’s enthusiasm was shared by those in attendance, as the in-person sessions marks a celebratory step forward for JoyRx. Children and families at Dell Children’s Comprehensive Care (CCC) enjoyed Christy’s musical performances as she sang for and with children. She provided much-needed support and encouragement through the power of music as medicine – with a promise to return for more!

Christy spent the day rolling the JoyRx music cart, stocked with various instruments, between clinic exam rooms, stopping to sing to each child who needed it.

The JoyRx team continued the joy-revolution with stops for in-person music sessions at Dell Children’s Blood & Cancer Center (CBCC) on Thursday, October 6, and a live concert at Dell Children’s Medical Center on Tuesday, October 11

At Dell Children’s Medical Center, it was a beautiful fall day for a JoyRx Music concert with Grammy-nominated artist SaulPaul, who played an hour-long outdoor music set for the children, families, and healthcare workers in attendance. An Austin City Limits (ACL) performer, his presence brought the festival to the kids. Afterward, SaulPaul took his music indoors to play for children unable to venture outside.

“It was such a Joyful day,” said one Dell Children’s staff member.

While there’s much to celebrate with the return of in-person programming nationwide, JoyRx still provides Digital-Live and On-Demand services for children who need it. Our priority, as always, is to ensure the safety of the children we serve. We are dedicated to our many delivery channels for music medicine.
